In association with The Komodo Foundation in an effort to help fund its activities, Indonesia Cruises launched the 'Small Phinisi Fleet', in June 2005.

The Komodo Foundation is an independent, non-profit and non-governmental body working in the fields of education and environmental awareness. While their programs target the coastal and maritime peoples of Komodo, Flores and Nusa Tenggara, their efforts can only make a difference for all peoples of the Indonesian archipelago.
The mission of the Komodo Foundation is to increase awareness of and promote responsible action regarding the natural environment of Nusa Tenggara. Through education and affirmative action we hope to foster real change in attitudes and the livelihoods of the peoples of Nusa Tenggara.

Several hundred of the Small Phinisi wooden boats, whose design was inspired by the traditional Bugis wooden schooners, will be launched into the sea all around the world, by guests of the Ombak Putih and the Ombak Biru. For only IDR 100.000 your own Small Phinisi (either varnished, painted and decorated as you wish) will not only sail seas, rivers or oceans, but will bring exposure to The Komodo Foundation and its projects, helping Komodo National Park to remain the Indonesian Treasure it is. Just click on the "new entries" button below and tell us your name, when and where you found the small phinisi and the ID number on the brass plate. And of course were and when you launched it! The boat can then be released again to continue its long journey, hopefully across many oceans!
